"Promoting ideological discussion in higher education institutions is necessary, but dignity and duty should also be taken care of," Naik told reporters here.
He, however, refused to comment on questions related to JNU incident.
Referring to achievements of girl students in universities on the eve of International Women Day, he said that in the line of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' slogan, girl students have made great achievements.
He said that out of 25 universities, convocation of 20 universities had been held during which 40 per cent degrees went to girl students but out of 1196 medals, girl students bagged 67 per cent of medals.
On the proposal to increase tenure of vice-chancellors from three to five years, he said that it was still under consideration of the state government.
