Defeat CPI(M)-Congress unholy alliance: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today termed the alliance between the CPI(M) and Congress in the state as "unholy" and asked people to defeat it in the upcoming Assembly election as it has no "ideology".
"The CPI(M) and Congress alliance is an unholy one. Defeat this alliance without casting even a single vote for it. Reject such an unholy alliance which doesn't have any ideology," Banerjee said during her poll campaign in Purulia district.
She challenged her opponents - the Left, Congress and BJP to fight her politically and not by slandering her party.
Stating that her government has undertaken developmental work in the district to improve the lives of the people, Banerjee claimed, "We have restored peace in the areas which were troubled by Left-Wing Extremism earlier."

"During the rule of the erstwhile Left Front government, people were in panic in the entire Jangalmahal area (tribal areas of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts) which witnessed killings and bloodshed everyday.
Those days are gone today and peace has returned in the entire area," Banerjee said.

She said that before 2011 people used to live in fear and even trains did not run at night in Jangalmahal. But now filmmakers from across the country are coming to Jangalmahal to shoot.
Jangalmahal, she claimed, has made huge strides in development of infrastructure and social sectors which has reinforced the faith of the people in her. "This has been possible because of the cooperation and resilience of the people that peace has returned to the region."

"The erstwhile government did not pay any attention to the development work in the area. But we have undertaken a huge development work and have restored peace in the entire Jangalmahal," Banerjee said adding that two new sub-divisions would be developed at Manbazar and Jhalda in Purulia district.
Listing out a series of development work, which were either completed or are undergoing, Banerjee said "Peace and development were our priority and we have done this for the welfare of people in the area."
Banerjee is also scheduled to attend rallies at Bandwan and Balarampur in the district, besides leading a procession at Purulia town.
