The Delhi Bar Association (DBA) today went on a day-long strike in protest against alleged inflated electricity bills for power supply to chambers in the court complex.
The Tis Hazari court complex wore a deserted look due to the strike, which was called by the DBA demanding Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDA) to roll back the power bills issued to the lawyers and reverting the nature of bills from non-domestic to domestic.
The strike was, however, suspended after the lawyers' body was assured by TPDDA that their grievance would be considered and resolved at the earliest.
"Today's strike has been very successful. TPDDA has now told us that they are considering our demands and will resolve them soon.
"They (TPDDA) have written to us assuring resolution of the issues in 10 days time. Therefore, we have suspended our strike for 10 days," DBA Honorary Secretary Nitin Ahlawat said.
The lawyers were protesting that the private electricity company "has unilaterally and without any notice to lawyers (consumers) had changed the tariff of electricity bills of lawyers chambers at Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi from domestic to non-domestic".
