Delhi BJP claims to have enrolled 16 lakh members

As Delhi heads towards Assembly elections, BJP is aggressive on membership enrolment drive and has so far managed to induct 16 lakh new members.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the drive on November 1.
"We have enrolled around 16 lakh members so far during the party membership drive which will continue till January 15 next year," said a senior BJP leader.
He claimed around 30 to 35,000 people are joing the saffron party every day, adding "we are also running the membership drive in DTC buses, approaching barbers and taking the help of its doctor's cell and kirtan mandals.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP claimed it has secured a big relief from the central government when the MPs of Delhi got the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act 2011 introduced in Parliament and ensured ban on sealing and demolition of all the unauthorized colonies and properties which have come up by June 1, 2014 in Delhi.
"BJP MPs have been fighting for it and many times BJP delegations knocked the doors of UD Ministry," Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said.

However, Delhi Congress accused BJP of "betraying" the people of the national capital on the issue of unauthorized colonies.
"They (BJP) have not done nothing new. They have just extended the vaildity of the Special Provision Act which protects the unauthorized colones which sprung up before February 2007 from the demolition but the saffron party didn't do anything about the future of colonies which came up between 2007 and June 1, 2014.

"It is misleading the people of Delhi. If it is really serious on this issue, why doesn't it include these colonies, which emerged after 2007, in the Special Provision Act?," DPCC chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said.
