Hyderabad police stations now on Facebook

Utilising social media platform to be a more interactive, citizen-friendly and responsive force, Hyderabad City Police today launched Facebook pages for all stations under its jurisdiction.
Police Commissionerate, too, is part of the initiative and the move is part of the government's vision to transform Telangana Police into a 'smart' and modern force.
Community involvement and support is an essential pre- requisite for success of policing in any city and interaction with the community in real time on a regular basis will help the police in improving its service delivery standards, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma told reporters here.

At the DGP conference last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said India needs a 'smart police force' which means having strict but sensitive, mobile and modern, accountable, responsive and techno-savvy personnel, he said.
"The PM spoke about various areas where police force needs to move forward. These included use of modern technology, forensic science and ability to tackle cyber crimes. He also expressed the wish that each police station should have a website or a Facebook page.
"We are glad that today each of our police station in Hyderabad has started having a Facebook account. This definitely will help the police to get in touch with the community, be more responsive to their policing needs and get a feedback instantly on the same," Sharma said.

Each police station has different problems in their jurisdiction. These problems can be conveyed through Facebook pages and the SHO and other senior officers can discuss and address them, the Telangana DGP said.

"This (initiative) is to encourage police-public interaction and get feedback, and also deal with specific complaints," the top cop said.
"It will also enable the citizens and police stations to build partnerships through real time interactions for enhancing safety and security standards in their areas."
The DGP said modern technology is being used in every sphere of life and police cannot be left behind.
