The AAP government has been able to collect a little more than half of its targeted annual revenue during the nine months of the current fiscal, the BJP claimed today.

"The government lags behind in raising revenue through its much-hyped revenue model of VAT as against a target of Rs 24,000 crore, it so far collected only Rs 14,000 crore of VAT revenue," Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA and leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, said in a statement.

"The amount of Rs 14,000 crore collected by the government includes Rs 13,000 crore received from VAT imposed on petrol and diesel," he claimed.

The Kejriwal government had promised to drastically increase expenditure on education and health facilities but these sectors will suffer "badly" due to the lower revenue collection which will in turn affect people of Delhi, Gupta added.
