In the first phase of its pilot project, transport department, as an experiment, has started an online registration process for all private cars in the city, while in the second phase to begin next month, all two wheeler-vehicles will be registered online.
According to a senior official, with the launch of online registration process, government will also have exact numbers of vehicles being sold every day. At present, the department maintains such records through documentation process.
The official said that under this project, automobile dealers would be able to register sold vehicle with the transport department online and they don't need to visit regional department's offices.
The official said that as an experiment, online process has been started for registering all new private cars by the department in the first phase.
"We are studying the first phase of this project and if we get good response, we will then start registering all two-wheelers online. We have plans to launch second phase next month," official said.
"Drivers of commercial vehicles currently have to visit department's offices to pay tax of their vehicles which consumes their more time, but with this project, they would not be required to do so as they can deposit their tax online," official added.
