Delhi govt launches helpline for nursery admissions

Delhi CM also launches a web application to facilitate pre-primary admissions in private schools

Delhi government today launched a helpline for parents to register their grievances pertaining to the nursery admissions which are set to begin on Wednesday.

"Parents can register their complaints against any school by calling the helpline. Their grievances would be addressed in three working days," Education Minister Manish Sisodia said while announcing the helpline, whose number is, 011-2735 2525.

The helpline will enable aggrieved parents to contact the education minister's office over admissions-related problems.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also launched a web application, www.edudel.nic.In, which will facilitate pre- primary admissions in private schools. The application will let parents find nearby schools and check the availability of seats and fee structures.

Meanwhile, noting that ensuring transparency was a pre- requisite for removing irregularities in the system, Kejriwal said schools were "charitable societies" whose motive should not be to earn profits.

"Schools are charitable societies, their motive should not be to earn profits. Why are Delhi schools resistant to being transparent?" Kejriwal said.

Sisodia said that the common man wanted his family to be healthy and educated.

"People have small dreams, they don't want to become the Prime Minister or live like Tatas and Birlas, they want to lead a comfortable life and education is the basis of that dream. Launching this helpline is a step towards that dream," Sisodia said.
