To decongest city roads, the Delhi government has decided to construct 10 elevated corridors in various parts of the national capital.
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain said the government has identified locations where these new elevated corridors would be built.
"Out of the 10 elevated corridors, three will be two-tiered while others single-tiered," Jain told reporters here today.
The two-tiered ones would also have Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor.
The minister said the AAP government wants to decongest the city roads so that people don't face problems while commuting.
Elaborating about two corridors, Jain said, "We have identified the roads from Anand Vihar to Tikri Border via Punjabi Bagh for construction of an elevated corridor."
He said the length of this project would be around 40 km.
"Another elevated corridor would be built from Shastri Park to Tronica City," he said, adding that he would give the details of other corridors next week.
Yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that his government was mulling constructing elevated BRT corridors.
He had said the government would construct two-tier elevated roads -- one dedicated to BRT and the other an expressway.
According to the plan, buses would ply on the BRT corridor while cars and others vehicles on the expressway.
