The government today ordered a probe into alleged irregularities on Delhi-Jaipur highway following a surprise inspection by Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Krishan Pal.
It also asked Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to come out with a report by July 10.
Besides, it announced that the Rs 3,300 crore six-laning project of the highway connecting the national capital to the pink city will be completed within this calendar year.
"After a surprise inspection of a stretch, I have asked CRRI to come out with a report into irregularities, including that of the construction of the flyover at Kotputli leading to frequent jams, by July 10. Normalcy will be restored on the highway soon," Krishan Pal told PTI.
He said orders have been issued to rectify flaws in the construction of the flyover within 25 days.
Strict action based on the probe report will be taken against those found guilty, he added.
Besides, CRRI has also been asked to come up with suggestions for smooth flow of traffic on the important highway, NH-8.
Pal said that if need be, construction work could be handed over to NHAI and the six-laning project will be completed by December this year.
Traffic jam like situation have been prevailing on the crucial highway for about a week after cracks were witnessed on the flyover and traffic was diverted to avert any major mishap.
Earlier, Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva had drawn the attention of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari towards various issues related to this highway, including tolling.
