The call for the protest was given by JNU Student's Union against the ongoing military offensive on Gaza.
As the protesters marched towards the Embassy on Aurangzeb Road, they were stopped by the police who put up barricades, triggering a skirmish, after which around 70 of them were detained and taken to Tughlaq Road Police Station.
The protesters, including CPIML leader, Kavita Krishnan, alleged they were manhandled by the police.
Police said they had already told the protesters that they will not be allowed to stage a protest in the high-security zone where section 144 also remains imposed. Around 70-80 protesters had staged a similar protest yesterday at the Embassy as well.
