The mercury hovered between 6.8 degrees Celsius and 11.6 degrees Celsius at an average of two to seven notches above normal, in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, the MeT department said here.
Amritsar was the coldest place in Punjab and Haryana registering 6.8 degrees Celsius, seven notches above normal.
While Narnaul settled at a low of eight degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the minimum at Hisar was 10.3 degrees Celsius, which was two notches above normal.
Chandigarh settled at 9.9 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal whereas the minimum temperature at Karnal was 10 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
Rail, road and air traffic were affected due to poor visibility, affecting flights and trains which were running behind schedule, officials said.
The MeT forecast shallow to moderate fog with dry conditions in the region in the next 48 hours.
