Armed with brooms and other cleaning equipment, followers of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Baba Ram Rahim came out on the streets of Haridwar yesterday, burnt the garbage heaps and also cleaned the banks of the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri.
Leading the campaign to Har Ki Pauri, Baba Ram Rahim said dirtying the sacred river was like offering unclean water to one's mother.
"We wish to clean the Ganga up to Gangasagar and will continue to clean the river and the towns along its banks if permitted to do so," he said.
A similar exercise was carried out by Dera followers in Rishikesh too where they cleaned the river besides the drains in the town.
