As thousands of commuters remained stuck in massive traffic jams on NH-8 due to water-logging in Gurgaon, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took a dig at the BJP-led Haryana government saying development doesn't take place by merely changing the city's name to Gurugram.
Authorities were forced to shut down schools in the satellite city while several offices declared "off" after heavy rains led to water-logging on NH-8, causing massive traffic jam. Thousands of office-goers were stuck.
National Highway-8, the main carriageway from Delhi to Jaipur, was choked as hundreds of trucks tailed each other and were unable to move due to the water-logging. The situation worsened when morning commuters too came on the road.
"Development doesn't take place by just naming Gurgaon as Gurugram. Development requires planning and implementation. Gimmick will not clear the traffic jams," Sisodia tweeted.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also attacked the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana over the jam, saying "That's BJP Governance".
Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu asked Haryana Chief Minister Khattar to take "urgent steps" to deal with the situation.
The prolonged jams threw the traffic out of gear as many motorists abandoned their vehicles and waded through knee-deep water on both the carriageways of Delhi-Jaipur road, including Hero Honda Chowk, forcing the traffic to come to a standstill with the tailback extending up to 15-20 KM.
