Condemning the surging fuel prices, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists here today held a protest demonstration demanding inclusion of petrol and diesel under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax.
Around 100 DYFI activists, including women, took part in the protest christened 'funeral to two-wheelers' and raised slogans against the spiralling prices of petrol and diesel.
"We demand that the central government include petrol and diesel in GST to bring down price levels. The state government must nudge the centre in this," DYFI Chennai district secretary Hanifa said.
The protesters also demanded that the governments control prices of essential commodities.
DYFI is a youth wing of CPI-M.
