Refuting the "politically motivated" claims of a former Himachal Pradesh minister that he had written a letter to HRD Ministry regarding setting up the main campus of Kangra Central University at Dehra, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today that the varsity would be set up in Dharamsala.
"The facts were being distorted by the BJP leaders and they were not only trying to mislead the people of the state but had also misinformed Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on the issue," he said.
Former Himachal minister Krishan Kapoor had made the allegations earlier today at a press conference in Dharamsala.
Singh said that right from the beginning Congress had decided to build the main campus of CUHP at Dharamsala and even the Cabinet had given its nod.
Singh said that MP Anurag Thakur wants the University to be set up at Dehra which falls in his Hamirpur parliamentary constituency and was opposing the decision of the government only for this reason.
The Chief minister said that P Chidambram, the then Finance Minister, had conveyed the decision of UPA governmentfor setting of CUHP and Indian Information of Technology (IIT) in the state.
The Cabinet then only decided that IIT would be set up at Mandi and CU at Dharamsala or a nearby place.
