Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh approached the state police through his counsel asking for a fresh date for appearing before them as he was away in the US for treatment of his daughter.
Singh was served a notice at his official residence in Bhopal on Sunday for appearing before the police on September 30 (tomorrow) in connection with a probe for alleged irregularities in appointments at the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly secretariat between 1993 and 2003.
However, his lawyer Ajay Gupta sent a letter on behalf of Singh that he should be given a fresh date as he was away in America in connection with treatment of his daughter.
Bhopal police had registered a case against Singh, Congress General Secretary, former MP assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari and others under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, including forgery, conspiracy, cheating, misuse of office and other sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, after a complaint lodged by the MP Assembly secretariat.
Hinting that police action smelled of vindictiveness, Singh had posted two tweets addressed Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan saying "Shivraj Ji, despite you aware that I am in the US for treatment of my daughter, you sent a notice to my place.
"Don't be worried, I will come back and obey the summons issued by the police. Let them (police) do what they want to do," he tweeted.
