After some delay, implementation of 'initial loan assistance scheme' of Maharashtra government has started, with disbursal of an advance of Rs 10,000 to farmers to help them with sowing operations.
Maharashtra minister of state for home Ranjitsinh Patil today attended an event in his hometown in Akola district and disbursed loans to farmers.
The cooperation department sources said that loans have been disbursed in over 20 districts.
The public sector banks are sanctioning these loans on the basis of affidavits from farmers, not insisting on production of other documents to prove eligibility.
While announcing loan waiver for marginal farmers in Maharashtra amid an intense agitation earlier this month, the government had promised Rs 10,000 initial loan assistance at the start of Kharif season.
