DJS exams '14: Ex-SC judge to re-evaluate answer sheets

Giving a ray of hope to nearly 650 unsuccessful candidates of the Delhi Judicial Services examination, 2014, the Supreme Court today asked its former judge Justice P V Reddi to re-evaluate their answer sheets within six weeks.
The court also made it clear that the appointment of already selected 15 candidates as judges would not be "touched".
A bench of justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant asked Delhi High Court Registrar to provide Justice Reddi panel the requisite infrastructure, including a place preferably a court room and secretarial staff to conduct re-valuation of answer sheets.
Out of 659 candidates, who had qualified in preliminary and taken up the mains examination, only 15 persons were selected for the appointment after the interview.

The bench said that it wanted to "assuage the grievances" of persons who appeared in the mains examination and asked Justice Reddi to re-valuate their answer sheets.
It further said that the persons, if found at par with the selected candidates, can be interviewed by the same panel that had interviewed the successful candidates.

The bench, however, said that the law is well settled to the fact that it is the call of the employer to decide as to how many would be selected against the advertised posts.
It asked the Reddi panel to maintain "secrecy" in the re-valuation process and fixed the petitions for further hearing in first week of March.

The petitions allege arbitrariness in the evaluation of the answer sheets of the examinees of DJS 2014.
Earlier, the court had said the selection of 15 successful candidates of the DJS exam would remain.
The bench had sought response from successful candidates on the PIL filed by the Centre For Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) alleging arbitrary evaluation of answer sheets in the judicial services examinations held in 2014.
The bench had said that it would like to hear the 15 candidates, who were selected for the interview, before appointing a former apex court judge re-evaluate all answer sheets.
