Alleging large scale inclusion of names in the voters list within a span of one month and removal of certain names from the list, DMK today filed a petition in Madras High Court seeking a direction to Election Commission to submit a copy containing details of the applications made.
The petition filed by R S Bharathi, Organisation Secretary of DMK.
Justice M M Sundresh ordered issue of notice to the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral officer of Tamil Nadu on the matter within two weeks.
In his petition Bharathi submitted that the inclusion of names in the voters list during the period from 05.04.2014 to 01.10.2014 was only 65,398, the inclusion for three weeks period from October 15, 2014 to November 10, 2014 was 16,23,774.
He further alleged that spurt of inclusions in less than a month is 24,82 folds higher than the earlier six months period.
Similarly during the period from January 6, 2015 till September 10, 2015, about 4.20 lakhs applications were received for new inclusions which are comparatively 6.4 times higher than the claims made in same period of the previous year of 2014.
The petitioner prayed to direct the ECI to submit a copy and also to give time to submit their objections duly after verification.
