Doubtful whether China will change approach towards strategic

India and China may reach a consensus on a range of commercial and economic issues but it is doubtful whether China would "reconsider" its approach towards strategic and international issues involving India, former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh said here today.
Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China, Singh said that China has been stubborn on certain issues and the approach seems to be continuing.
"China is obstinate and it may not change its attitude towards strategic issues with India... Involving boundary issue and the Kashmir dispute.
"Spiritual leader Dalai Lama's relation with India is also one of the issues China has with India. However, economic relations between the countries may improve," Singh told reporters at his residence here.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi today asked China to "reconsider" its approach on some of the issues and take a strategic and long term view to push the relationship with India which has been "complex" in recent decades.
"I stressed the need for China to reconsider its approach on some of the issues that hold us back from realising full potential of our partnership. I suggested that China should take a strategic and long term view of our relations," Modi said.
On the issue of state-run China TV showing a distorted map of India without Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh, Singh said that it shows China's approach. "China does not consider Arunachal Pradesh as part of India and it has similar approach for Kashmir too," he said.
