The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials have seized gold worth Rs 1.06 crore from a flight that arrived here from Thailand.
Following a tip-off that smugglers would remove the gold concealed in a toilet during the domestic trip of an aircraft after it arrived from international destination, DRI officials kept close vigil on such flights landing in Chennai.
The team conducted a search in the SpiceJet flight that arrived here from Bangkok yesterday, an official release said.
"During the search, the officials recovered 3.60 kgs of gold valued at Rs 1.06 crore concealed in a toilet of the aircraft", it said.
"As there was no claimant for the concealed gold, it was seized under the Customs Act 1962", the release said.
