Drug haul case: lookout notice issued against woman accused

Mumbai Police today told a special court that they have issued a look-out notice against a woman accused in connection with the recovery of 12 kilograms of mephedrone drug from the cupboard of a police constable at a city police station last month.
The city police, while seeking further custody of the accused police constable Dharmaraj Kalokhe, also told the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court that they have issued a lookout notice against the wanted drug-peddler Baby Patankar, so that she does not leave the country.
Head constable Kalokhe, posted at Marine Drive police station, had been arrested on March 9 after 110 kg of mephedrone drug, whose market value runs into "crores of rupees", was seized from his residence in a village under Khandala taluka in Satara district.

The next day, 12 kg of mephedrone, had been seized from Kalokhe's locked cupboard at the Marine Drive police station here, along with Rs 30,000 cash. After a thorough interrogation by Satara police, Kalokhe was sent in judicial custody there.
The police today told the court that they want to investigate the role of certain police officials in connection with the case.
However, special judge U B Hejib remanded Kalokhe to judicial custody till April 21 after defence advocate Naveen Chomal told the court that since his 14-day custody has already expired, he cannot be sent to further police custody.

"Kalokhe informed us that he has named several police personnel but the police are taking statements of only small fries like two police constables and one suspended inspector," Chomal told PTI.
