Delhi government's premier infrastructure development agency DSIIDC has constructed over 800 km of roads and 1,500 km of drains in 371 unauthorised colonies as part of its drive to improve basic infrastructure in various settlements across the city.
Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation was tasked with carrying out developmental works in 634 unauthorised colonies spread over 21 assembly constituencies.
"The task in 371 colonies had been completed," a senior DSIIDC official said, adding that an expenditure of Rs 1,334 crore was incurred to improve basic infrastructure in the colonies.
The official also said that projects worth Rs 278 crore were currently under progress in 97 more colonies which will be completed by the end of the current financial year.
He said Shriram Institute for Industrial Research has been entrusted with the task of ensuring quality in the projects being implemented by the DSIIDC.
The Delhi government had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies in September last year. Various agencies had been tasked with improving basic infrastructure in the colonies.
The Delhi government had issued provisional regularisation certificates to over 1,639 unauthorised colonies ahead of assembly polls in 2008. The then Sheila Dikshit government, while distributing the certificates, had promised to regularise the colonies if Congress came to power for the third term.
Out of the 1,639 colonies, 895 were regularised in September last year. The unauthorised colonies are considered traditional vote-banks of Congress.
After the Congress' defeat in municipal polls in April last year, Dikshit had asked all departments concerned to expedite the regularisation process.
The government had instructed municipal corporations to finalise the layout plans for each of the 895 regularised colonies at the earliest.
