DU admissions: Students may have to wait for a few more days

Students seeking admission to the undergraduate programme in Delhi University may have to wait for a few more days with a newly-set up panel of principals being asked to devise the modalities for admissions.
A 12-member committee of college principals was set up by the university today to look into the issue of admissions under the three-year format.
"The Vice Chancellor has appointed a Committee of Principals which will devise the modalities for admissions and advise and monitor all admission-related issues in colleges so that the process of admissions to the undergraduate courses for 2014-115 is completed in the shortest possible time and in a smooth manner," Registrar Alka Sharma said in a statement.

Committee member and Principal of Shyam Lal College R L Gupta said, "admissions are unlikely to start from Monday."
"The committee will submit its report as soon as possible," he said.
The panel, headed by the President of DU's Principals' Association S K Garg, met informally this afternoon and is expected to undertake some serious deliberations on how to go ahead with the admission process. Sources said a report by the committee is expected to be submitted to DU Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh by Sunday.

Secretary of DU Principals' Association, S Lakshmi Devi said that they would try to start the admission process as soon as possible but cannot give a specfic time period within which admissions can be started.

"We have to follow certain formalities. Our agenda would be to begin the admissions as soon as possible," she said.
When asked about the fate of students pursuing four-year B.Tech courses, she said, "we do not know about that as we have been asked by the UGC to follow the admission process as it was in 2012-13 when these courses were not even in existence."
Under pressure from UGC to act on its directive, the Delhi University today scrapped its controversial four-year undergraduate programme and reverted to the previous three-year structure.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the DU Vice Chancellor asked principals of its colleges to start admissions for the new session under scheme of courses that were in force in academic session 2012-13.

With the fate of the students enrolled in the four-year B.Tech courses still unknown, several students staged a protest outside the UGC office here demanding that their course should not be changed to a three-year programme.
