Uttarakhand Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay and Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya have been issued notices by Election Commission for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct which is in force in Haridwar district in view of the April bypoll to Bhagwanpur assembly seat.
The notice was issued by Haridwar District Magistrate-cum- Returning Officer H C Semwal on the basis of a complaint filed with the commission that the two leaders went in a red beacon light fitted vehicle to interact with party workers at Khelpur in the district in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The notices have been served on the two leaders separately, Deputy Returning Officer Pratyush Singh said today.
Bypoll to Bhagwanpur assembly seat in Haridwar district is scheduled to be held on April 11.
The seat fell vacant last month after the untimely demise of sitting MLA from the constituency and cabinet minister Surendra Rakesh.
