"We have registered a revenue of Rs 3,866 crore in the first four months of the current fiscal as compared with Rs 3,779 crore in the same period last fiscal, marking a 2.29% growth," ECR General Manager Madhuresh Kumar told reporters after releasing the new railway time-table.
As many as 949 lakh commuters travelled by trains in the ECR zone in the first four months of this fiscal, clocking a revenue of Rs 785 crore, he said, adding the passenger revenue registered a growth by 12.56% against the earning under this head during the same period last fiscal.
The ECR's passenger revenue will set a new record this fiscal as the peak season was yet to begin, the ECR GM said.
Highlighting the ECR's growth as a key revenue grosser among 17 zones of the Indian Railways, Kumar said the ECR earned a record revenue of Rs 11,067 crore in the last fiscal, which was 9.8% higher than Rs 10,079 crore in 2012-13.
Similarly, the number of train passengers logged by the ECR in the last fiscal stood at 27.42 crore, earning a revenue of Rs 1,982 crore, which was 21.30% higher as against the figure in 2012-13, Kumar said.
Referring to freight income, he said the ECR transported 35 million tonnes of goods in the first four months of this fiscal, earning a revenue of Rs 3,000 crore for the zone.
