Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today said the education system must be future-oriented as he asked students to be familiar with smart campuses.
He was speaking during the inauguration of the 'Toppers Enclave' here at Raj Bhawan today.
"The main objective of the conclave is to develop an environment of academic excellence and create an interest in technological development and modern learning among students," Paul said.
The education system must be future-oriented apart from being modern, he said, adding that students must be familiar with smart campuses as well as smart villages.
Deliberations and lectures delivered at the conclave would be published in the form of a book and sent to the universities, the governor said.
Former ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar, who spoke on the role of scientific and technological research in nation building, told the students not to be afraid of failures but develop a tendency to learn from them.
Speaking about the many challenges and failures faced during the early days of the Indian space mission, he said despite this, the Indian scientists, through their determination and hard work, finally succeeded.
Kumar said the best use of scientific and technological development was for human welfare.
Indian satellites have brought about a revolution in agriculture, navigation, weather forecasting and telecommunications, he said.
Toppers conclave began to be held in Uttarakhand after Paul took over as the governor of the state in January 2015.
Education minister Arvind Pandey, Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat and VCs of all state universities were present on the occasion.
