Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) presented the award to EESL for outstanding contribution in accelerating the National Programmes on Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) and Street Light National Programme (SLNP), yesterday, a press statement said.
Union Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Uma Bharti conferred the award, consisting of a plaque and a certificate, to EESL DGM (Technical) Venkatesh Dwivedi and its Advisor HR A K Arora.
EESL created a benchmark this month by crossing the four crore mark of distributing LED bulbs in India within a span of 25 days since its three crore hit in November.
In addition to Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, EESL's flagship initiative DELP has now reached Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Karnataka.
EESL has been able to slash procurement prices by 75 per cent and is able to pass this discount benefit to the consumers.
In addition, thrust is to bring down the LED bulb price in the retail market (currently Rs 300) so that there is sustainable market for these energy efficient LED bulbs.
A joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation, Power Finance Corp, Rural Electrification Corp and PowerGrid, EESL was set up under Power Ministry to facilitate implementation of energy efficiency projects.
