Efforts are afoot to construct more parking slots in Shimla as the facility was available for only 687 vehicles against more than 79,000 registered ones, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly was told today.
As many as 79298 vehicles were registered with various authorities such as Regional Transport Authority (RTO), State Transport Authority (STA), SDM (Rural) and SDM (Urban), Shimla whereas parking facility was available for only 687 vehicles, Urban development minister Sudhir Sharma told Vidhan Sabha today.
Replying to a question of Suresh Bharadwaj (BJP), the minister said that efforts are afoot to construct more parking lots and projects with capacity for parking 2012 vehicles have been proposed.
The minister agreed that the problem was acute and there was need for introduction of integrated multiple transport system to dissuade people from using their own vehicles and informed that the proposal for construction of a 3.3 km long ropeway connecting the bus stand with the main town in two phases was under consideration and bids have been invited.
The minister agreed to the proposal of constructing more parking lots and asked Bhardwaj to suggest such places where new slots could be constructed.
