Benegal, who heads the government-appointed censor board revamp committee, has not only called the film extremely well-made but also complimented the makers for showing the prevalent issue in Punjab, that is of substance abuse.
Asked for her reaction to the veteran filmmaker's word of praise, Ekta told PTI, "Shyam sir (Shyam Benegal) (is) a very revered man. I am humbled by his comments regarding the film."

The "Udta Punjab" team has locked horns with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after it suggested 13 changes in the film.
