Paatrik Kujur (62) and his wife Alveshiya (58) were beaten to death by the women of their village Anghla under Aasta police station limits on suspicion of practising witchcraft, Jashpur Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Pandey said.
The three accused Anjana Tirki, Soshan Tirki and Karuna Tirki were arrested on May 26 and charged under sections 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) of IPC and provisions of Chhattisgarh Witchcraft Atrocities (Prevention) Act 2005, the ASP said.
The offence took place on the intervening night of May 25 and 26, when the trio barged into the couple's house. They later dragged the couple out of their house and beat them up to death with sticks, she said.
The assailants also claimed that even their family members were ill due to the alleged evil practices of the victims, she said.
Further investigation was on in the case, Pandey added.
