"...Currency volatility, internationally, the demand is not catching up and the WTO (World Trade Organisation) itself is revising the estimates for the second time on global exporters. Of course, there are concerns which I would voice I would want the industry to interact with the government much more," Sitharaman said at a function here organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO).
"I would definitely ask the FIEO to be able to provide platform for the government and the exporters need to talk about what kind of relief measures were needed and also suggest sectoral issues that need to be addressed," she said, after handing over the Exports Excellence Awards organised by the FIEO, Southern Region.
On government measures to address issues facing exports sector, Sitharaman said that "internal reforms are key to bring in better competitiveness".
"... We have signed the trade facilitation agreement as a result we are bringing in efficient systems, single window clearance. I am sure with the steps that are being taken, exporters can access information and potential exporters can identify markets," she said.
Pointing out that there was a "responsive" government at the Centre, Sitharaman said, "I would only request that the industry to be actively engaged with the government. We are here to encourage you. We are here to give solutions that are needed.
