According to police, the incident took place last evening when Deepak Kumar was fixing a decoration light at the terrace for the function when he was electrocuted.
The family, however, claimed that Kumar had gone to the terrace for something when he came in contact with electric sparks from a nearby pole and got electrocuted.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The family alleged that regular sparking had been taking place from the pole and the power distribution company took no measures despite repeated complaints.
Kumar, who lived with his wife, two children, father Ramcharan, mother Omwati and three brothers at their East Gokulpur residence, worked as an engineer at a Xerox equipment making company.
Police today handed over the body to his family after postmortem.
