Following a surprise inspection in a North Delhi area, its mayor Azad Singh has asked discoms to ensure proper functioning of all streets-lights in a week's time.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Mayor Azad Singh inspected areas of Rohini Zone such as Prashant Vihar, Shalimar Bagh among others last night and issued warnings to corporation employees and corresponding discoms after finding several street lights in faulty condition.
"The mayor issued warning to both engineering department employees of the Corporation as well as the corresponding discoms and asked the latter to ensure proper functioning of all streets lights within a week," NDMC public relations officer Yogendra Singh Mann told PTI.
Singh expressed his annoyance with the officials of the power distribution companies after finding that the street lights on some of the stretches like in sectors 6, 7 and 8 were not functioning, Mann said.
Despite paying a huge sum to the power distribution companies, street lights do not function properly, the mayor said.
He also asked the concerned officials of the corporation to write to the power discoms complaining about the negligence on their part.
The Corporation pays to the discoms for maintenance of the street lights as well as electricity bill. A total of 63, 141 street lights are installed in all 34 wards of Rohini Zone. While street lights in six wards are maintained by BSES, the rest 28 are maintained by TPDDL.
The North Delhi mayor also issued warning to the officials of the electrical engineering department of the corporation on non-functioning of high mast lights at two points in Shalimar Bagh, Mann said.
