The decision was taken at the meeting of the board of directors of Maharashtra State Road development Corporation (MSRDC) here, Maharashtra government said in a statement here tonight.
The consultant has been appointed to finalise the alignment of the highway.
The 800-km highway connecting Nagpur with Mumbai is supposed to be completed by 2019 and the project cost is estimated to be Rs 30,000 crore.
It will pass through Ghoti, Aurangabad and Amravati and will cut the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to ten hours from the existing 15 hours.
