"However high a person may be, he is equal before law. There was a general feeling among the public that the high and mighty will not be touched. But with the arrest of the actor that misunderstanding stands corrected," Kodiyeri said at Kannur.
If police could arrest Dileep, they have all the freedom to nab and arraign as accused any others found involved in the case, he said.
Opposition leader in the assembly Ramesh Chennithala said the actor was arrested after a prisoner who shared the cell with main accused Pulsar Suni, had given important leads to the police.
Chennithala also criticised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his statement that there was no conspiracy angle in the case.
KPCC President M M Hassan said the arrest of Dileep had been delayed by five months due to Vijayan's statement that there was no conspiracy.
Marxist veteran V S Achutanandan said the government should also probe into the wealth accumulated by office bearers of various film organisations.
He also sought a comprehensive probe into the alleged drug trade in the field.
Actor politicians, Mukesh and Ganesh Kumar, who had come in for criticism for allegedly speaking rudely to the media and supporting Dileep at an AMMA press meet two weeks ago, today hailed the LDF government's action in arresting the actor.
Mukesh said he was "fully satisfied" with the police investigation.
The government has once again made it clear that it would not protect the culprits, he said.
