The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has come in for praise from BJP leader and former Chief Minister of the state, Shanta Kumar, for clearing the proposal for a ropeway to the Himani Chamunda shrine in Kangra district.
In a letter to present CM Virbhadra Singh, Shanta said: "The Rs 200 crore ropeway project will bring Himani Chamunda on a par with the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage in terms of its popularity."
In light of the recent calamity in Uttarakhand, the Rajya Sabha member further advised Singh to give clearances to development projects - especially hydroelectricity works - only after careful thought.
