An executive engineer of Rural Engineering Service (RES) department here was caught allegedly taking a bribe of Rs three lakh from a contractor today, Lokayukta police said.

The engineer, identified as Virendra Singh Verma, had demanded a bribe of Rs eight lakh from the contractor for releasing his firm's Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDR) and clearing bills amounting to Rs 10 lakh, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Jabalpur, H P Choudhari said.

"Based on the complaint, a trap was laid and an employee of the contractor firm was sent with Rs three lakh cash as the first instalment at Verma's official residence. As soon as the money changed hands, Lokayukta team caught him red-handed," the DSP said.
