Acting on a tip-off, police thoroughly searched the Aamanala forest area two days back and recovered chemicals, wire, batteries, gelatine and other materials used by Naxalites for carrying out blasts, from a pit covered with an earthen material, Balaghat's Superintendent of Police Sachin Atulkar told reporters here.
The explosive material was found in an aluminium container hidden in a pit covered with freshly dug soil.
Police also recovered ammunition used in self-loading rifles from the spot.
The recovery is significant in view of the November 25 Assembly polls in the state, the SP said.
