A 39-year-old woman has alleged a youth from Punjab was trying to extort money from her and threatening to harm her family after she befriended him on a social networking website, police said today.
As per police, Menaka Verma, who lives with her husband and two children in Dwarka, has charged that one Angad Gill, who hails from Punjab's Ludhiana district, threatened to kill her family members and embarrass her with "made-up" stories.
Menaka told police that she became a Facebook friend with Gill some time ago. Soon, they started to chat as friends during which Gill told her that he was planning to shift to Delhi for work. He later came to Delhi and took a house on rent at Dwarka Sector-6, police said.
Later, Gill told her that he has run out of cash and sought financial help from Menaka. Initially, she helped him but soon realised that he was making money from her and not planning to work, said a police official.
When she refused to lend any further money to him, Gill returned to Punjab but kept demanding money from her. His methods, however, turned forceful.
Recently, Gill had asked Rs 1.5 lakh from Menaka, failing which he allegedly threatened to kill her family members.
"We have registered a case of extortion attempt and criminal intimidation and efforts are on to nab Angad Gill," said a police official.
