The fare of unreserved second class in the newly launched Varanasi-New Delhi Mahamana Express will not be hiked and remain the same as normal Mail/Express service.
In a fresh notification, Railways today informed about the fare structure of Mahamana Express by scrapping the 15 per cent hike in the unreserved class announced earlier.
"In partial modification, it has been further decided that fares for second class (unreserved) of Varanasi-New Delhi Mahamana Express shall only be superfast Mail/Express fare of regular train services instead of 15 per cent higher than normal Mail/Express basic fares," according to the Railway notification.
The fares of the train were increased by 15 per cent as the facilities and other amenities have been substantially improved.
"The basic fare of Mahamana Express train shall be 15 per cent higher than the normal Mail/Express basic fares," an earlier notification had said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off the Mahamana Express which will cover the distance between Varanasi and New Delhi in less than 14 hours, offer state-of- the-art facilities to passengers and run thrice a week.
Coaches of Mahamana Express are equipped with features like controlled discharged water tap, new toilet modules, exhaust fans, LED lights, snack tables for side berth passengers and use of fire retardation materials.
Railways plans to introduce two more such trains in the future.
