Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said farmers' coordination committees put in place by the government should play a key role in various initiatives.
The committees (comprising farmers) should play an active role in the initiatives, including distribution of cheques under the investment support scheme for farmers, distribution of 'pattadar' (title holder) passbooks and also a proposed life insurance scheme for farmers, he said.
"To make all these programmes a great success, the Rythu Samanvaya Samithis (farmers coordination committees) must play a key role," a release from his office quoted Rao as saying.
Observing that the government would help at every stage, right from ploughing, Rao said it is the responsibility of the committees to coordinate with the farmers.
"In Israel, agriculture is profitable. There production and productivity is more than anywhere (else). There, the returns (are) more because they adopt modern agriculture techniques," he said.
The Chief Minister said district coordinators of Rythu Samanvaya Samithis should visit Israel and learn techniques adopted there in agriculture and farming. The government would bear expenes for travel and stay of the coordinators, he said.
Rao gave certain suggestions to the coordinators, including educating farmers on cropping patterns, determining cropping "in accordance with demand and needs of Telangana people."
