Satellite television channel Syfy has acquired the rights of female "Van Helsing" series from Nomadic Pictures.
The 13-episode series, with writer Neil LaBute as showrunner, will begin production in January 2016 in Vancouver, Canada for fall 2016 premiere, reported Aceshowbiz.
The series will focuses on Van Helsing's daughter Vanessa.
In the story, Vanessa is resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over the world, but with unique power she possesses over them, she is humanity's last hope to take back what has been lost.
Neil is executive producing the series along with Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev of Nomadic Pictures, Simon Barry of Continuum, Evan Tyler of Industry Works, Dave Brown of Echo Lake Entertainment and Daniel March of Dynamic.
"I am extremely excited to be working with Syfy and Nomadic Pictures to create a unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories.
"This is a wonderful chance for us to forge great stories and unforgettable characters and throw them into a world where the stakes - both dramatic and personal - are tremendously high," Niel said in a statement.
