The Deputy Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today asked the government to find a way out to address the issue of power cuts in Jagti township in Nagrota, which is inhabited by the migrant Kashmiri Pandits of the state.
Intervening in the attention notice given by National Conference MLC Vijay Bakaya on the issue of 18 hours power cut in Jagti Township, the Chair, which was occupied by NC MLC Khalid Najeeb Shurawardy said the issue was going on since last one-and-a-half years and told the government to address the problem.
Bakaya suggested that a nodal agency, headed by Chief Secretary, should be formed to find a solution to the problem.
Earlier, JK Minister for Power Vikar Rasool said that there were total of 4,224 flats in the township, out of which 3,484 numbers have been metered.
"In spite of a lot of persuasion by Power Development Department, none of the migrant occupants of the flats have executed any agreement with the department nor are they paying for the power they consume," he said.
Rasool said the grievances of the migrants at Jagti Township shall be redressed if either the individual allotees of the flats pay the electric charges as per their consumption or the relief organisation pays for the energy supplied to the township.
"As per record, 232.195 Lus of energy has been supplied to the township, which has been billed to the tune of Rs 691.63 lakh and the said amount stands as arrears against the township," he said.
