Five girls from an orphanage in this south Odisha city have been successfully placed in a company in Ahmedabad.
The girls from 'Balashram' completed their studies at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here.
"We are really proud of the girls," said Rajat Panigrahi, Principal of Government ITI.
"This was made possible by their sheer willpower and hard work. The significance of their achievement is all the more relevant to the girls here, who have been inspired by them," he added.
Sunita Behera, Yashoda Pradhan, Rupa Sahu, Papini Nahak and Yamuna Sahu had enrolled at ITI in 2013. They completed their skill development course in 2015 and were selected in campus recruitment soon after, he said.
They will be joining the interior and plastics division of the Tata Autocomp Systems Limited and earn Rs 9,000 per month.
Three of the girls hailed from Ganjam district while the native place of other two is not known. "We are obliged to the staff of Balashram and also grateful to everyone at ITI for their guidance," said Rupa.
"Since they joined our institute, we guided them at every step, knowing they lacked the support system most other students have. It makes us very happy that they are now self-reliant," said Panigrahi.
