Five members of a family were killed after the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in crashed into another car on the Solapur-Pune road this evening.
The accident took place at Dalas village near Bhigwan when the family was returning to Pune after visiting the famous Tuljapur temple, police said.
The driver of the SUV lost the control when a tyre burst, and the vehicle jumped the divider and collided with a car coming from the opposite direction before turning turtle.
Bhigwan police identified the deceased as Sandeep Prakash Gaikwad (35), his wife Sheetal (32), son Abhiraj (5), father Prakash (67) and mother Sunita (58), all residents of Yamunagar area of Nigdi near Pune.
All five died on the spot, police said.
Four passengers in the other car received minor injuries.
