The decision was taken by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia.
A senior government official said that there were more than 50 students in one class of each school and in view of this, the governmnet decided to introduce two shifts.
The five government schools, which will be run in double shifts, are SBV, Sector-4 (Ambedkar Nagar), G Co-ed SSS (Sundar Nagari), S Co-ed (Peeragarhi Village), GBSSS (Amalwas Jwalapuri) and G Co-ed SSS (Bindapur).
Government has provided basic infrastructure for double shifts in these five schools.
There are around 946 government schools across the national capital in which lakhs of students are studying.
Government said that apart from making 8,000 new classrooms across the capital, it is going to run more schools in double shifts so that students get quality education at their institutions.
