Folk art on display at 6th RIFF in Jodhpur

Among other things, the performances of folk dancers of Chakri, Dhol-Thali, Bhawai, Gair, Bhopa and Kanhaiya nritya punctuated the entire fort, welcoming spell bound tourists to match their steps with that of the artistes.

"We want the visitors of the festival to have a close look with these different performing arts of Rajasthan so that they can see and acquaint themselves with the treasure of their own land," Divya Bhatia, director of Jodhpur RIFF, said.

This "experiment" has found quite a good response, he said, adding that the performances will continue from 11.00 to 5.00 pm.

Today, the devotional vocal of Bhopa Bhopi tradition by Bhanwari Devi and Patashi Devi resonated at dawn. The day ended with traditional Rajasthan Quavvali by Ghulam Hussain from Jaipur and global dance grooves and beatmatching with DJ MPS Pilot from the Netherlands at the beautiful setting of Chokelav Garden.

Backed by UNESCO, the five-day event had begun yesterday.
