Former international shooter Sobhita Chatterjee passes away

Former International shooter Sobhita Chatterjee, who reigned the national championship from 1960-66, died of old age at her residence yesterday, according to family sources.
Sobhita, 95, is survived by two sons.
"She was ailing from heart problem and last few days there was trouble in her kidneys. She breathed her last at here Lake Gardens residence at 3.25 pm yesterday," her son Amit Chatterjee, who is a senior national coach, told PTI today.
Sobhita was described as the 'Bengal shooting queen' in the sixties when she ruled the national arena for seven years winning six titles.
Her best year was 1965 when she made a clean sweep winning gold medals in all the 13 possible events.

Sobhita represented India at the 1966 World Championship in Germany and she called it quits after that.
At a time when women were confined to household work, a sari-clad Sobhita had challenged the stereotype as she picked up her Walther rifle and started training at the Serampore Rifle Club.
The state government had recognised her achievements, coffering Lifetime Achievement Award on Sobhita in June last year.
